The energy sector is subject to a set of vectors that determine its evolution: the liberalisation and integration processes of the energy market; the continuous increase of energy consumption and the growing demand for high-quality energy supply; and, finally, the ever-increasing environment requirements in the energy sector, established - in the case of the EU - within the context of the Kyoto Protocol implementation.
The Innovation in the Generation of Electric Energy points towards a cleaner use of fossil fuels for the generation of electricity, the capture of CO2 and the increase of the life cycle of traditional power stations.
In the field of Electricity Networks, we are experiencing a trend towards the automation of networks, aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of the electricity supply.
There is also a growing trend towards the Diversification of Energy Sources using renewable forms of energy - especially wind, photovoltaic and biomass sources - and electric energy distribution systems, such as batteries and mini-turbines, with the need for an efficient interconnection of the distributed resources.
The Innovation in the end-use of Energy is targeted at energy efficiency and demand management.

The ROBOTIKER-Tecnalia's Energy Unit is part of TECNALIA ENERGY; comprising a specialist group of 120 people, generating a turnover of more than 8 million euros and collaborating with more than 100 companies from the Energy Sector. GAS MICRO-TURBINE FOR TRIGENERATION
This project, led by PIGMALY in collaboration with NATURCORP, ANDIA and ENERTEK, is responsible for the development of a natural-gas micro-turbine for the generation of heat, cold and electric power. ROBOTIKER-Tecnalia's contribution consists in the development of the power converter needed to connect the turbine to the network.

The objective of this project is to develop a mini wind generator equipped with a number of innovative solutions that offer high levels of performance reliability.

With this innovative product, TEAM ARTECHE will implement new functions for the protection of long-distance electricity lines (of up to 80 km) in their equipment.
